Following the cancellation of our concert at St John’s Smith Square last month, we were immediately desperate to get making music again, through any means possible. Unlike many similar organisations in Europe and the USA, this orchestra does not benefit from any government subsidy. We receive no public funding of any sort and are therefore entirely dependent on the generosity of individuals, charitable foundations and corporate sponsors.

Next auditions

The next round of auditions for all instruments will be held in January and February 2021.

Our Influence over the years

Many ex-YMSO players hold or have held prominent positions in orchestras across the country. As a testament to how influential they feel their time at YMSO was, many of them have come back to the orchestra to tutor at rehearsals and also advise generally.

"these students represent the next generation of orchestral musicians who will continue our great classical tradition into the new millennium. The orchestra needs all your encouragement and support."

With our return to St John’s Smith Square this evening, we are pleased to present a fourth virtual performance for your enjoyment.

Tchaikovsky’s ‘Grand Pas de Deux’ from ‘Nutcracker’ has long been a favourite within the repertoire and our musicians have had a lot of fun putting it together.

Thank you for your continuing support in these difficult times and we hope to be able to see you at a concert very soon.

So great to be back making music at our home St John’s Smith Square over the last few days preparing for our first concert since lockdown. Lots of safety measures in place, more space between our players and a smaller orchestra than usual.
We are so lucky to be performing for a live audience (albeit much reducedl!) tomorrow. If you didn't get one of the limited number of tickets, don't worry! We will be sharing a video of the concert with you all in a few weeks!!

We are playing Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and Beethoven Symphony No.8 with our Artistic Director James Blair MBE.

Dear James. I wonder whether you remember me from back in the 80s. I've just come across a couple of broadcasts we did from the Barbican and the Royal Festival Hall and, truth to tell, they're not bad I wonder whether you have copies of them?!

Fantastic everyone - have been looking forward to this!

Superb ! Well done all
